We believe in the power of collaboration, diversity, and personalised care. We employ a diverse range of therapeutic approaches to cater to our clients’ unique needs, including:
Our lives are becoming increasingly stressful as we juggle various priorities relating to career, family and personal aspirations. We also may carry with us emotional pain from the past, impacting how we cope with challenges in the present. This can lead to broken relationships and unending work hours causing high stress and burnout, and interfering with our ability to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Love and the desire to connect is a fundamental human need! Healthy romantic relationships are linked to positive outcomes for the entire family system.
At Lyra Singapore we provide confidential relationship counselling that allows couples the opportunity to understand and resolve difficulties in their relationships. Our work focuses on the dynamics between people, offering benefit to both parties jointly and individually. We work with dating, pre-marital, intercultural and interracial couples, and couples who are transitioning into marriage, parenthood, empty nests or are going through a divorce.
Many of our counsellors are trained in Gottman Couple Therapy.
Childhood, being the foundation stage of our lives is where the roots of most of our eventual ways of living, thinking and relating with ourselves and our world lie. Children as young as 2.5 years may have social, emotional, behavioural or developmental challenges which impact their development and childhood experiences. Issues like these may arise because of various underlying causes.
We at Lyra Singapore believe in ‘Early Intervention’. Intervention at this stage allows an opportunity for issues to be addressed before deeper and long-lasting damage is done. This philosophy is supported by our team of highly experienced clinical as well as educational psychologists and counsellors that is dedicated to working with children.
We use a collaborative approach and involve the parents, school and other relevant people involved in the child’s upbringing, for effective therapeutic healing. Where necessary, we also administer psychometric assessments to help identify core issues so that individualised intervention and learning plans can be developed.
If required, we make references and work closely with other service providers such psychiatrists, speech/language and occupational therapists.
Young children often do not have the skills to understand and process their emotions. Because language is also still developing, it can be hard for them to verbalise or put into words how they feel. Our team is skilled in using various Expressive Therapies (Sand, Play, Art, Movement) which engage the child at pre-cognitive levels and help overcome the barrier of language to connect with them. All therapy sessions are conducted in a child friendly environment and with tools that enable children to work through their challenges.
Adolescence can be a challenging time for young people as it marks transitional stages in school, physical and emotional development, and the formation of deeper peer relationships. It can also be an exciting time where exploration of self emerges, creativity and independent thinking grows, and values and beliefs are questioned and assessed. Working therapeutically with this group means fostering growing independence while creating a safe base for learning strategies and skills to make healthy life choices, strengthen sense of self and create goals for positive growth and change. Whenever possible, we support parents and involve them in the therapeutic process.
Our counsellors, psychologists and social workers are multicultural and speak English, French, German, Dutch, Arabic, Bahasa, Hindi and Mandarin.
We help families cope with any family situation that causes stress, trauma, anger or conflict. Family relationships can be difficult to navigate, and at Lyra Singapore we help improve troubled relationships between family members using a structured process that facilitates communication and understanding.
Do you feel that your child is not reaching their full potential at school? Do they struggle with learning, attention or processing information in a way that you can’t quite pinpoint? If this is the case, you may want to consider a psychometric assessment for your child.
Psychometric assessments are used to identify core issues and the underlying reasons for why these issues are occurring. They also provide valuable insights into a child’s strengths and weaknesses. We use this information to help parents and teachers understand how to best support the child with their learning and development. It is important that issues are identified early so that interventions can be put in place to prevent children from falling behind in their learning.
Psychometric assessment can also be useful for adults undertaking further study, to provide information to their university or college about particular learning difficulties that may impact on their studies. This ensures they receive appropriate support and accommodations so that they can make the best of their further education.
Assessment areas that can be examined include:
At Lyra Singapore all assessments are administered by highly qualified, experienced and accredited psychologists. We use a range of standardised psychometric tools including the WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WIAT-IV, Tea-Ch 2, Conners CPT-3, BRIEF-2, ADOS-2 & ADI-R.
All assessments start with an initial parent-only interview in order to obtain a comprehensive history. Parents are generally asked to bring copies of school reports and other assessment reports. With consent, teachers are often contacted directly to obtain further information and to complete screener questionnaires. At times a school observation may be indicated. Based on this information, an individualised assessment program is formulated.
Psychometric testing with the child then takes place over 1-2 sessions depending on the area of assessment and the functioning of the child. Results are scored and interpreted in a written psychometric report, which includes recommendations for support strategies in school and home settings.
A separate feedback session is then organised to discuss the results. This session often involves parents alone, but can sometimes include older children and adolescents. If requested, a further feedback session and follow up review meetings can also be arranged with the child’s school.
Personality assessment can provide insight into several aspects including the person’s self-concept, thought patterns, personal, social, and behavioural problems, strengths and challenges, coping mechanisms, interpersonal issues, severity of distress, risk, reality-contact and ego-strength. Often, the requisite awareness or understanding of the dynamics contributing to a person’s distress is inadequate or incorrect, hence assessment provides a comprehensive and objective picture of their mental and emotional health and functioning.
Assessment provides valuable data for relevant interventions and therapeutic support for children, teenagers, adults, couples and groups. Some of the common concerns for which personality assessment is often useful are: feelings of depression, anxiety, fears, conflicts, relationship and communication problems, trouble making or keeping friends and/or jobs, anger, trauma, abuse, behavioural difficulties, low impulse control, addiction, psychosis/Schizophrenia, low confidence and self-esteem, social difficulties, occupational difficulties, marital difficulties, medically unexplained or difficult to treat illness, aches or pains, personality issues and personal development.
Lyra Singapore provides Personality Assessment using empirically validated clinical tests like:
